Everything happens for a reason
I think it's total horseshit when someone says: "Everything happens for a reason." You mean Hurricane Katrina "happened for a reason"? And the Holocaust? And slavery? The list is endless, especially when it includes "everything." It's a silly thing to say. Yet, we hear it all the time, mostly when it suits the user.
Let's face it: There's a good deal of randomness in the Universe and nothing that I've ever observed "happens for a reason." Good things happen and bad things happen because we CREATE them happening, or sometimes they "just happen." And of course some things that happen are good for some and bad for others. Nothing happens for a reason.
The Rev. Rick Warren, author of the best-selling "The Purpose Driven Life", says that "God has a purpose for all of us." I think it's bullshit. If there IS a personal God out there -- and we don't actually know that -- he clearly stays out of our affairs and let's nature (and human nature) run it's course. That should be obvious to all. Yet Warren declares that God has a "purpose" for us. Nice idea, perhaps, but I would like to know what he bases this on. We don't even know who God is! How does Warren know what God thinks? The answer is he doesn't; he just says he does. (Lie?). It's all his fantasy. And all the more power to him. The guy sells millions of books!

God does have a purpose for everyone. Where does Rick Warren get this? The Bible. Yes, ba things occur, but God is still present even in those dark days.
The Bible is a wonderful book that deserves our respect and reverence. A combination of history, mythical stories and yes, fantasy in the minds of the many writers (and "re-writers"), it's no more the "word of God" than the Koran. I do not know why we're here or who put us here, or why, and neither do you.
Hi,
Stopped by your blog, I think you're an incredible writer (although I do disagree with a few things)
I can totally see your point of view on this blog. Disasters, terrible things happen, terrorism, etc...it's enough for the biggest Christian to lose their faith. *I personally believe* (as a Christian) that sometimes God has to tear down in order to build it back up. New Orleans will rise up above all, making it even a better city. Who knows.
I will say this, Jim... I find it sad when someone doesn't have faith in God, and relies on scientific earthly matters. In my belief, 'we are not of the earth'----we are of the spirit. We are nothing but dust, but our soul lives on forever.
In the bible, we are living in the Revelations right now as we speak. The world will one day come to an end (in my belief) and that's the time when we create a whole new world, God creates a new home for us. That's comforting for me.
Maybe religion to you, may seem as 'just a comforting thought' to others. I have experienced God's presence and His unfailing promises to me. He has helped me at my lowest points and I have felt His spirit within me. (No I wasn't taking drugs) ;)
I guess it's not a good idea to push my beliefs on an Atheist or someone who is Agnostic, but sometimes I just want to tell people who do not believe, what has happened to me.
"The Purpose Driven Life" is a great book. People buy it, due to their faith in God. The person wrote it due to their faith in God, not money. I wrote a book myself, a Christian inspirational non-fiction, and I did this because of my faith, not the money. In fact, I have given many free copies out to many people.
Scientific theories will always be more prominent due to the earthly structures it can provide. Having blind faith in God, is a whole new realm. I can only speak for myself though.
Just wanted to share my thoughts, your blog touched a chord with me.
Keep up the great writing! Thanks for sharing your views.
All the best~
You wrote to my personal e-mail account:
“sorry, but i really don't have time to waste on you
here these will help you--

http://www.onegoodmove.org
http://www.crooksandliars.com”
So I wrote back to you:
“That's what I thought. Usually democrat-left wingers are very close-minded liberals who seek nothing else, but their own opinion. What a waste.
Too bad you're such a good writer. You can use that productively if you weren't so close-minded.
That's what a blog is for, for people to respond to your writing.
If you can't take critiques or criticisms, then don't blog.”
I actually saw your point of view, however just gave you my opinion. You don’t have ‘time’ to waste, yet you sit here and blog your opinions.
I’m sure you lose readers by the minute with that attitude. Aren’t elderly people supposed to be more wise? Hmm. I should respect them more, huh? In this case, I’ll have to pass.
Deb I didn't even find your comment to be insulting. I guess some people do not know how to handle people when you're not agreeing with them. This blog is definitely a waste of our time.
THIS IS MOST UNSETTLING. The last "comment" that Deb says I posted, the one that says, I "really don't have time to waste on you," is fraudulent and in error. I DID NOT SEND HER THAT MESSAGE. I hope this is just Deb's honest mistake, and not a flaw in the software. What kind of an asshole would dismiss Deb's thoughful words so dismissively and arrogantly? (Not me!)
I'm sort of concerned with that myself. Sorry for the miscommunication and for whatever happened regarding that e-mail.
Thanks for responding. I appreciate that.
